6 astuces pour appliquer son mascara comme une pro

Hello Pomponnette,

Do you think there's no special technique for applying mascara? Well, there are great tips for achieving doe eyes, and "pretty lashes" doesn't have to rhyme with "difficult"! We were lucky enough that Carine Larchet, a professional makeup artist, shared her easy secrets for lashes that are never dull again!

Let's change your makeup routine! ;)

Tip #1 for applying mascara - Strike a pose

Do you also open your mouth when you apply mascara? - Ready to catch flies... - Well, that's a bad start! Pause, let's take the right pose: look up, it lifts your chin, and thus closes your mouth! This is THE position to adopt for all makeup, not just eye makeup: eyes half-open, enough to apply makeup to the eyelid, while seeing what's happening - and avoiding mistakes! -.

Tip #2 for applying mascara - Start with the top of the lashes

If you're like us, you apply your mascara to the underside of your lashes, which seems like the normal thing to do, right? Well, Pomponnette, we've got it all wrong: it weighs down the lash - oh yes, it's Jean-Michel Newton's law of gravity - and therefore it's not ideal for perfect curl!

The professional "pomponnement" technique: start by applying a coat of mascara to the top of the lashes - on the surface of the lashes, that is! -! This first step, often forgotten, helps to coat your lashes - and not Cécile's... ! -.

Then, without waiting too long, apply a coat of mascara to the underside to shape the lashes before the product dries.

We don't use a zigzag motion for now, we go from root to tip, in a straight line and apply as many coats of mascara as we want until we achieve the desired volume and intensity!

A little tip for Pomponne's natural black lash-boosting mascara:

Before the first use, run the brush back and forth a few times in the mascara tube to ensure it's well saturated with product.

For a natural look: 1 coat of mascara

For a "wow" look: 1 more coat, so 2 applications (re-dipping the brush in the mascara tube)

It's up to you to manage your mascara dose according to the desired result!

Then, finish with a light brush of mascara on the lashes at the outer corners.

Ah, and here's another reason to convince you to start from the top: lashes don't grow like leek fields - as Carine would say - but in 3 or 4 rows, so if you only apply from underneath, you're forgetting about 25% of the mass, so you're not giving yourself the best chance to boost lash volume - just saying - !

And by the way, we're being told that if you tend to lose your lashes, Pomponne's care mascara doesn't have a classic formula, but it's enriched with active ingredients that boost lash growth in 6 weeks, and it's even suitable for sensitive eyes. A real lash treatment in addition to being a mascara - did you say perfect? -.

Mascara volume tip #3 - Go brush yourself

Do you also think that for a volumizing mascara, the bigger the mascara brush, the more volume it gives your lashes? Well, we're wrong again!

In fact, to increase lash volume, the little trick is to apply mascara at the base of the lashes! Like a blowout at the hairdresser - after all, lashes or hair, same fight! -: it will thicken the roots to give volume, not the tips, right? - Thank you Carine for this image that helps us visualize it! -

So the professional Pomponne technique for mascara application : start at the lash line - as close as possible! - and for that, it's much more practical to have a small, flexible brush to avoid getting it everywhere! - Even if afterwards, a cotton swab is your best friend, unless it's plastic, of course! -

Mascara tip #4 - Lash by lash, one by one

And for perfect lashes, the essential step: finish with zigzag movements at the base of the lashes to separate them! - Bam, the pro tip to avoid mascara clumps -

Bonus: the comb brush of Pomponne's care mascara allows for clump-free application.

Mascara tip #5 - The lower lash debate

Like us, do you ever wonder whether or not to apply mascara to your lower lashes? To help you make your choice, Carine guided us:

  • If you have dark circles: avoid it! A coat of mascara will make them even more prominent...
  • If your lash line isn't regular: avoid it again! It will accentuate their sparse appearance and won't look good...
  • - so when do we apply it then? - If you have regular lower lashes and you don't have panda eyes! But a little tip: go easy anyway so as not to go from panda to butterfly, if you know what we mean! - Yes, we love animals. -

Tip #6 for applying mascara - A one-way trip

We see you, like us - before - making several back-and-forth motions in your mascara tube, thinking it will properly saturate the brush, right? Stop! - Back and forth is only for trains -. With mascara, you put it in, you take it out, period! Otherwise, you incorporate air inside and it will make it dry out faster...

The only time you can do it is during the first use to prime the product and properly saturate the mascara brush.

Bonus: proper lash removal

Every evening, it's important to add makeup removal to your routine! Rather than a makeup removing oil that tends to blur vision, we recommend this makeup removing granite that removes makeup from lips, face, and eyes without stinging, gently removing long-lasting makeup and even waterproof mascara. Special mention if you have sensitive eyes, it's formulated without fragrance.

So Pomponnette, did we teach you anything with Carine's makeup tips? Are you happy that we chatted with her so that mascara application becomes child's play? You can thank her in the comments if thanks to her you have amazing lashes!

We also give you our tips for applying your lipstick.
